How to get an Xbox One (or PS4) for cheaper

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I decided that I would be getting a next-next-gen console to have for when Madden comes out. Yeah, I enjoy Madden that much. I figured that since I was getting it before August anyway and they wouldn’t be going on sale before then, I might as well get it now so I could play other games on it. I decided on the Xbox One for reasons I described here, but most of the advice applies equally to a PS4 as well.

This was made easier by the fact that we already shop at Target a lot, so we have a Target credit card. I’m not sure about other stores, but the Target card gives you 5% off all purchases. We also get 3% off on Amazon, so it’s only a little better, but if you’re getting only 2 or 1 percent on your current card, that’s not great for these purposes. You can also get a 5% off card from Target for getting your prescriptions filled there which stacks with the credit card to give you not quite 10% off. This works for either system and at any time.

When I was in the store a couple of weeks ago, they had a promotion that said if you bought an Xbox One, you got a $50 gift card. Since Microsoft wasn’t going to discount the system anytime soon, Target did it. This is what made me jump on it right away, as I saved almost $100 off the $500 system.

Funnily enough, not two days later, Microsoft announced that they would be coming out with a Titanfall bundle that came with the game for free, which was basically $60 off. Since I didn’t know if Target would carry it or how many they would have, I decided to stick with the deal I got but this might be another option.

So there you have it, a way to save money on your new system. It might not be for everyone, but I thought it might help someone out there.
