New Year’s Resolution Movies Week 3: The Dark Knight Rises

For week 3 of our New Year’s resolution to watch a new movie every week we watched The Dark Knight Rises, the third installment in Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy.  Before I say any more, I should probably note that my wife and I might be the only two people in the world who liked Batman Begins better than The Dark Knight.  Yes, Heath Ledger was great but I thought it had some serious pacing issues which is a big problem for me.  I still liked them both a lot, just loved Batman Begins.  So where does The Dark Knight Rises rate?

Firstly, I really enjoyed the movie, however, it was very long.  It didn’t have the same issue with length as The Dark Knight, but it did still feel quite long at 2 hours and 45 minutes.  Whereas The Dark Knight felt like it was trying to stick a second plot into the movie, The Dark Knight Rises started the climax early and it kept on plowing through the end of the movie.  It was a great epic ending to the trilogy but I’d still say it’s my third favorite.  It was better paced but didn’t have anything as awesome as Heath Ledger’s performance, though Tom Hardy was really good.  All in all, if you liked the first two, you’ll like this one and you shouldn’t see it without seeing Batman Begins.  I’m giving it an 8 on Metacritic.
